Maybe you've been in therapy before, or you've spent time reflecting on your childhood and relationships. You understand where certain patterns come from and can recognize when you're people-pleasing, overworking, or shutting down.
You’re self-aware, but you still find yourself repeating the same patterns that you want to break free from.
Understanding something intellectually isn't always enough to change what your nervous system has learned through years of experience.
That's where Brainspotting therapy provides another path forward.
At Spiral & Bloom, Brainspotting therapy is part of a holistic approach to healing that makes room for your mind, body, spirit, and the experiences that have shaped you.
If you’ve tried talk therapy or done self-reflection before, you may understand your patterns, know where they come from, and why you respond the way you do.
But understanding why doesn't always mean you can change it.
You can know that you're safe while your body continues to brace for something to go wrong. Or, you can understand why you people-please and still struggle to say no. Insight can be an important part of healing, but some of what we carry isn't held only in our thoughts. Our bodies and nervous systems learn, adapt, and hold onto what we’ve survived.
Many Western or Eurocentric therapy approaches emphasize insight, analysis, and putting our experiences into words. They don’t leave enough room for the body, intuition, spirituality, culture, or the larger systems that shape our lives.
For Women of Color especially, healing cannot be separated from our families, cultural identities, communities, histories, and experiences of navigating the world.
Brainspotting therapy honors the full context of who you are, while providing your body and mind space to process past experiences, relationships, trauma, or stress that’s gotten stuck.
Many of the women I work with have spent much of their lives paying close attention to everyone else. They notice the energy in the room, anticipate and accommodate other people’s needs, and keep their families afloat.
For those of us navigating life as Women of Color, these patterns exist within additional layers of cultural expectations, gender roles, family responsibility, racism, immigration, intergenerational trauma, and the experiences of surviving oppressive systems and spaces.
You may have learned that…
being strong is necessary
taking care of others comes before taking care of yourself
there isn't space to fall apart
you need to hide, change, or soften parts of yourself to be loved and accepted
At Spiral & Bloom, therapy is a welcoming space just for you where we can explore and honor all of you, not just the symptoms that brought you in. You don’t have to perform or hide parts of yourself here. You can come just as you are.
When you live in survival mode, it can be harder to hear your own voice. You may know what everyone else needs before you know what you need, or look to others for reassurance before trusting your instincts. You might have a gut feeling, but talk yourself out of it.
As women, we’re often disconnected from our inner wisdom because we’ve been taught not to trust ourselves or listen to our bodies.
Brainspotting therapy creates opportunities to turn your attention inward and notice what your body is telling you. And I’ll support you as you reconnect with the intuitive and spiritual parts of yourself that may not always communicate through logic or language.
I offer Brainspotting therapy for women in Fresno, California, with virtual therapy available throughout California.
